I’m Jackie and I’m so glad that you are here!
I am happily married to my sweet hubby, mom to two little girls and two dogs, a Pomeranian-Jack Russell mix and a handicapped dachshund. I am a lab technician for a medical office. After having my first daughter, my boss and I created a new position for myself that would allow me to work from home.
I wasn’t always a health nut. I lived a typical life full of conventional products and processed foods. I weighed about 20 lbs more all throughout high school, despite being incredibly active in sports. I was first exposed to cleaner eating when I took a nutrition class in college. I started paying attention to ingredients and even went to the extreme. I gradually gave up on this after meeting [assumed] peer pressure over it, since it was so uncommon at the time.
Then, I moved to Santa Cruz to finish college, where everyone is health conscious. It was amazing. I ate real foods, used all natural products, hiked to class and lost the weight. Even when I moved back to San Diego and stopped hiking to class, I kept most of the weight off simply by continuing to eat well. Since then, I have held fast to my clean lifestyle.
I became fascinated with health and skeptical of anything conventional. It became a serious passion. For years, friends and family have come to me for simple, natural solutions or suggestions. I always figured that I was just a stereotypical hippy (what I lovingly call myself to describe my green-tendencies) and that the things I did were common knowledge to the green community. It wasn’t until after giving tips to another green mama that my husband commented on how few people spend time researching things like I do (haha). That’s when I realized it might not be common knowledge and that maybe some women or mom’s would be interested in the same things.
A clean life isn’t the only thing that excites me. Before I even became a mom, I loved clothes but I never took the time to keep up with it. I would go to the mall maybe a couple of times a year, only when I needed a new shirt or jeans. Then I stumbled across fashion influencers on Instagram (I had NO idea they existed!) and was hooked. It was like a personal shopper for myself and I learned so much about clothes (like how to manipulate sizes to suit you). My clothes make me feel confident, which to me is a well rounded feeling: good from the inside and out! Which is what led me to the name Green Babe.
So this blog has become my passion project: sharing clean, healthy living AND achievable style. I hope that you find this space helpful in whatever way you are looking for.
