I was pregnant in the summer and everyday felt like it was 100 degrees out. In San Diego, it gets hot in July and the heat stays until October with a few heat waves typically reaching into November. That’s a LOT of heat for a woman carrying 25+ extra pounds! I honestly did not spend much time outside or in places that did not have A/C. If I was outside, I HAD to be in a pool.
My best tip for surviving the summer while pregnant, is to wear light colors and minimize the layers. The inset panel shorts were a game changer! I couldn’t fathom doubling up on the layers due to a belly panel AND a shirt. Also, dresses are your best friend. Many dresses do not need to be maternity in order to fit a baby bump!
Don’t forget the SUNSCREEN MAMA
Good luck mama. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and remember your sunscreen! Stick to safe sunscreens that only use non-nano zinc oxide since chemical sunscreens can be absorbed into your bloodstream and could potentially cross the placental-blood barrier–YIKES! This zinc sunscreen is one of my favorites because it applies easily and it even has a stick version, that is creamy enough to actually rub in, which makes for easy facial application. OR, even better(!) get this sunscreen-makeup combo for daily use!
For the mamas with darker skin that don’t want a white-cast leaving sunscreen, I unfortunately had a hard time finding a suncreeen made for dark skin that did not have silicone or avobenzone in it. This sunscreen seems to apply nearly invisible and is CLEAN so I think it would be a good one to try. Please let me know if you do try it and how it applies to darker skin OR if you know of a sunscreen that is all natural and dark skin friendly.
Almost everything is UNDER $30 with the majority of items being $20 or less.
